What can your photo reveal?
Photos often carry extra details alongside the picture itself. Here are the kinds of information an image file can contain.
Location
GPS coordinates, if the device recorded where the photo was taken.
Camera or device
The make, model and settings used to take the shot.
Date and time
When the photo was taken, or when it was last edited.
Editing software
The app and version used to edit or export the file.
IPTC information
Author, copyright, description and keyword fields.
XMP information
Structured metadata written by Adobe apps and other tools.
Content Credentials (C2PA)
Provenance records about how an image was created or edited.
Metadata is not automatically a problem — it can help with organising, crediting and searching photos. Cleaning simply gives you the choice of what you share.
Why your photos carry hidden data
The phone or camera that took a photo can embed the exact location, the device model, and the date it was captured — and you may not even know it.
Did you know
A photo straight from your phone can reveal the GPS coordinates of where it was shot.
Did you know
Author, keywords, and software versions can stay embedded after editing or export.
Did you know
AI-generated images may carry C2PA or XMP provenance that platforms read as an AI label.
Cleaning your image before you publish protects your location and keeps the file under your control. Learn more in how the metadata remover works, check the most common questions, or read our privacy policy.
What this tool removes
Every supported metadata family is stripped during re-encode — and the report tells you exactly what was found.
EXIF
Camera make and model, date and time, GPS coordinates, software, lens and exposure settings.
IPTC
Author, copyright, description, keywords and location fields embedded by editors and apps.
XMP
Extensible metadata blocks written by Adobe, camera apps and other tools.
C2PA / Content Credentials
Provenance manifests, where the format and encoder allow them to be removed.
Remove metadata by topic
Dedicated pages for EXIF, GPS location, AI metadata and C2PA, plus guides that explain how image metadata works.

About AI-generated images
Some AI-generated images may contain provenance information or invisible signals that are separate from ordinary image metadata. This tool removes supported metadata and creates a cleaned copy, but it cannot guarantee removal of invisible watermarks or prevent social platforms from independently identifying AI-generated content.
How it works
Three steps from upload to a clean, downloadable copy. No account, no queue.
- Step 1
Upload
Drop a JPG, PNG, or WEBP file. Nothing leaves your control until you start the process.
- Step 2
Review
See exactly which metadata categories were detected: EXIF, IPTC, XMP, or Content Credentials.
- Step 3
Download
Re-encoded, cleaned copy — ready to download. Originals are deleted automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Honest answers about what this tool removes, what it cannot do, and how your files are handled.
What is cleanailabels.com?
cleanailabels.com is a free, online image metadata remover. It scans your JPG, PNG, or WEBP image for EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, and C2PA metadata, strips the removable fields by re-encoding the image, and gives you a cleaned copy to download. There is no signup, no watermark, and no permanent storage.
How does the image metadata remover work?
You upload an image and the tool rebuilds it from its pixel data on the server. Because re-encoding writes only pixels to the output file, supported metadata blocks such as EXIF, GPS coordinates, IPTC fields, and XMP data are not carried over. The cleaned image is re-scanned so you can see exactly what was removed and what remains.
Does cleanailabels.com remove EXIF and GPS location data?
Yes. EXIF blocks — including camera make and model, the date and time, software, lens and exposure settings, and GPS coordinates — are removed when your image is re-encoded. The before/after report confirms whether any EXIF remained.
Is cleanailabels.com free to use?
Yes. The tool is free and requires no account. Reasonable rate limits are in place so the service stays available for everyone, but there is nothing to pay for and no trial to upgrade.
What image formats are supported?
cleanailabels.com accepts JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WEBP files up to 20 MB. The cleaned copy is produced in the same format as the original so you can use it anywhere your original image was usable.
Can it remove AI metadata or C2PA Content Credentials?
cleanailabels.com detects and, where the format and encoder allow, removes C2PA Content Credentials manifests and AI-related metadata such as XMP provenance blocks. Some manifests are cryptographically bound to the file and cannot be stripped — the report tells you plainly which case applies.
Does removing metadata hide AI-generated content?
No. Removing file metadata is not the same as hiding AI-generated pixels or bypassing a detector. Invisible watermarks such as SynthID live in the pixel data, not the metadata, so no metadata tool can remove them without degrading the image. cleanailabels.com only performs file-level cleaning and does not modify your pixels.
Are my uploaded images stored or shared?
No. Uploads go to an isolated temporary directory with random filenames and are never stored in a database. The original is deleted as soon as processing finishes, and the cleaned copy is deleted once you download it or its 15-minute download window expires. Images are never used for training or shared with anyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required. You can upload, clean, and download an image in seconds without signing up, which also means we never ask for personal information or tie your files to a profile.
Can I use cleanailabels.com on mobile?
Yes. cleanailabels.com works in any modern mobile browser. The upload, analysis, and download flow is fully responsive, so you can strip metadata from a photo taken on your phone and upload the cleaned copy to social media from the same device.
Who is cleanailabels.com for?
It is for anyone who shares images and cares about privacy: photographers removing GPS and camera data before publishing, journalists and activists protecting their location, and creators who want to strip AI-related or editing metadata before posting to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and Etsy.
What makes cleanailabels.com different from other metadata removers?
cleanailabels.com runs entirely server-side, re-encodes your image, and then re-checks the output so the result is honest rather than guessed. It reports exactly what was removed and what it could not remove, handles Content Credentials explicitly, deletes files automatically, and needs no account. Files never touch a database and are never used for training.
